Therapist Intake Assistant – AI-Powered Diagnostic Tool

Helping psychotherapists prepare for first interviews with structured data and AI insights.

🛠 Tech Stack

  • Frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React

  • Backend & Database: Firebase (Auth, Firestore, AI Functions)

  • AI Integration: OpenAI API for summarization & diagnostic impression

  • Logic Layer: DSM-V criteria evaluation script (custom built)

The Idea

The first session between therapist and client often spends valuable time collecting basic information before deeper work can begin. This project was designed to streamline the intake process:

  • Clients answer a short questionnaire online.

  • Their responses are structured, analyzed, and summarized.

  • The therapist receives a clear diagnostic impression before the first meeting — saving time and improving context.

The goal was to give therapists better preparation, while keeping client data anonymous and private until the actual session.

 My Role

I built the full flow from form submission to AI analysis:

  • Frontend Form: Designed a simple web form with basic questions + DSM-V-based checkboxes.

  • Data Processing: Created a script to analyze responses against DSM-V diagnostic criteria.

  • AI Summarization: Integrated with Firebase + AI (OpenAI) to generate a diagnostic impression.

  • Backend Delivery: Stored results securely in Firebase, accessible only to the therapist.

  • Privacy: Ensured all data sent for AI processing excluded personal identifiers.

Impact

  • Reduced first-session overhead by providing therapists with structured diagnostic impressions ahead of time.

  • 🧩 Supported therapists’ clinical judgment with AI summaries while leaving the human relationship at the center.

  • 🔐 Protected privacy by removing personal identifiers from all AI-processed data.

How else could AI tools support therapists without replacing the human connection?
